Many Elders within the four walls of the Church want to discourage young abolitionists
There is one particular opposition to abolition that comes from within the four walls of the Church (churchianity) that goes like this "we do not think you should use the graphic pictures of abortion because it drives people away from Christ."
Those elder churchians will then tell the young abolitionist something along about two lines from scripture. The first is that they are to be simple concerning evil, and the signs do not conform to that admonition. The verse they are referring to is in Romans 16:19 For your obedience is come abroad unto all men. I am glad therefore on your behalf: but yet I would have you wise unto that which is good, and simple concerning evil. 20 And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly.
The simplicity Paul is referring to here is not a lack of knowledge of what is evil. It is complicity with evil!. What a misuse of scripture.
Another scripture the churchians will use to discourage the young abolitionist is Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Here, they will concentrate on the things that are lovely and pure and say that abortion is not that, so don't think on it abolitionist.
Now, they are ignoring in the very verse to include thinking on whatsoever things are JUST! It is just to stop mass homicide. It is just to bring the Word of God into conflict with child dismemberment.
Really, the churchians are being quite nefarious in their efforts to dissuade the young abolitionist. What they really don't like is that the young abolitionist, by exposing and opposing evil is causing the heathen to rage against the truth. The heathen does not like that there is this light actually telling him that his sin is evil. The churchian, in his pietistic ways has enjoyed the praise of even the heathen - the churchian has not actually experienced the world hating him like Jesus said the world would. That is because the pietistic churchian has actually never taken his light from under the bushel to reveal the things hidden in the dark.
The comfortable churchian wants to retain his comfort and his good reputation in the world. He does not actually want to pay the cost of following Christ.
